Alveo Technologies Expands Avian Influenza Testing to Africa and Asia

With global avian influenza infections climbing past 633 million birds, Alveo Technologies has signed a distribution deal with Alliance Global to deploy its rapid, on-farm molecular diagnostic tools. The partnership aims to fortify food supply chains by bringing lab-quality pathogen detection directly to farmers across Africa and Central Asia.

The agreement empowers Alliance Global to distribute the Alveo Sense Poultry platform throughout Africa, Central Asia, and parts of the Eastern Mediterranean. This technology, a palm-sized device capable of point-of-need testing, offers a critical layer of defense for producers facing the economic and health risks of bird flu outbreaks. By decentralizing molecular diagnostics, the platform allows for immediate on-site decision-making, which is essential for protecting flocks and curbing transmission to human workers.

Scott Thomas, chief commercial officer at Alveo, noted that the partnership provides a direct path to the integrators and health officials who need reliable testing in regions currently strained by the virus. Nassim Marie Hambouz, vice president of operations at AGBL, emphasized that the collaboration equips local producers with the tools necessary to take fast, decisive action against infections. This expansion marks a significant step for Alveo as it scales its commercial network to address food security vulnerabilities on a global level.
