ReEmerge Secures $37 Million to Restore Cognitive Function After Brain Injury

A new medical technology company, ReEmerge, has exited stealth mode with an oversubscribed $37 million Series A round. The startup aims to move beyond traditional rehabilitation by using electrical stimulation to restore dormant neural networks in patients suffering from chronic traumatic brain injury, potentially reversing long-term cognitive deficits.

The financing, co-led by U.S. Venture Partners and Santé, will bankroll a multicenter clinical study, NCT07730099, involving 40 patients with moderate-to-severe traumatic brain injury. ReEmerge’s proprietary platform, Cognitive Network Restoration Therapy (CNRT), targets the central thalamus—a critical brain hub for executive function and attention. Rather than teaching patients to compensate for lost abilities, the therapy seeks to jumpstart underactive neural circuits that remain viable long after an initial injury occurs.

This technology stems from decades of research led by Dr. Nicholas Schiff of Weill Cornell Medicine, whose earlier pilot work demonstrated that targeted electrical stimulation could help patients regain lost cognitive capacity. The approach represents a fundamental shift in clinical focus: moving from simple compensatory rehabilitation toward active biological restoration. With the new capital, CEO Todd Langevin plans to expand clinical operations and establish a robust body of evidence to support this transition in how chronic impairment is treated. The company holds an exclusive license for the foundational intellectual property developed at Weill Cornell, Stanford, and the University of Utah, positioning it to address a global burden that impacts an estimated 27 million people annually.
