Groupon Grants AI Agents Direct Access to Local Deals

Chicago-based Groupon is pivoting toward automation by opening its marketplace to artificial intelligence agents. The platform now allows these bots to autonomously search for local experiences and execute purchases on behalf of users, a strategic move to capture the emerging market for AI-driven consumer shopping.

Groupon Grants AI Agents Direct Access to Local Deals

The company’s new Groupon AI Builder Pack provides the infrastructure for these agents to interact with its catalog, with Groupon retaining control over the checkout process. Chief Executive Dusan Senkypl characterizes this shift as an inevitable transition, predicting that personal agents will soon become the primary interface for discovery and transaction in local commerce.

Beyond direct agent access, the initiative invites developers to build specialized platforms using filtered Groupon data. Creators can curate niche apps—ranging from wellness-focused portals to neighborhood activity hubs—and earn commissions on the resulting sales. Groupon has already established foundational integrations for this ecosystem, embedding its services as a plugin for OpenAI’s ChatGPT and a connector for Anthropic’s Claude.
