TV Azteca Files for Chapter 15 Bankruptcy Protection in New York

Seeking to formalize its restructuring across international borders, media giant TV Azteca has filed a Chapter 15 petition in the Southern District of New York. The move aims to align its ongoing Mexican concurso mercantil proceedings with U.S. legal standards, providing a unified framework for its global creditors to participate.

The filing serves as a strategic bridge for the broadcaster, one of the world's largest producers of Spanish-language content. By securing recognition in the United States, the company intends to shield its domestic assets from litigation while mandating that all stakeholders adhere to the primary reorganization process currently underway in Mexico.

Management emphasized that the petition is intended to provide transparency and stability for its financial obligations. By inviting U.S.-based creditors to assert their rights within the established Mexican legal structure, TV Azteca seeks to avoid fragmented recovery efforts and ensure the continued operation of its broadcast network as it works toward long-term solvency.
