Metro Reaches Tentative Labor Deal to End Five-Month Quebec Strike

The deal marks a potential conclusion to a labor dispute that paralyzed the company’s Laval produce center since late March.

Metro Reaches Tentative Labor Deal to End Five-Month Quebec Strike

The Canadian grocery chain confirmed Thursday that it reached an agreement in principle with the STTEUMR union, which represents 550 employees tasked with transportation and distribution duties. This breakthrough follows a grueling stalemate that began on March 30, affecting the flow of fresh produce through one of the company's key regional hubs.

Management and union leadership have scheduled a formal ratification vote for September 24. If the workers approve the terms, the agreement will finalize the renewal of their collective contract, effectively ending one of the longest grocery-sector work stoppages in the region this year.
