Malik Hathorn, a driver at Cartage Services by DeliverOL, noted that workers initiated the organizing drive specifically to mirror the standards and protections secured by thousands of existing DHL Teamsters nationwide.

The path to certification was fraught with friction. Both subcontractors deployed outside consultants to derail the unionization effort, a move that only galvanized the workforce. Calvin Dawson, a driver at Driven-Force Inc., recounted confronting management’s imported union-busters during the campaign, asserting that the company’s investment in anti-union tactics failed to sway the staff. The unanimous vote stands as a direct rebuttal to those management-led interventions.

Spencer Dearth, Director of the Teamsters Logistics Division, framed the victory as part of a broader strategy to standardize labor conditions across the entire DHL supply chain. With the union already representing a significant portion of DHL’s national workforce—and having secured a new master agreement in May that limits the impact of AI-driven routing—the focus now shifts to the bargaining table. The newly unionized drivers are preparing to negotiate their first contracts, aiming to codify wage increases and health benefits that match the broader Teamster membership.
