The new reactor generates approximately 30,000 tonnes of synthetic fuel annually, effectively doubling the capacity offered by the previous AlphaCore 400 model. By increasing the output per unit, Velocys aims to simplify the infrastructure required for industrial-scale facilities. For a plant targeting 1,600 barrels per day, the AlphaCore 800 configuration requires only two reactors, a 75% reduction in unit count compared to an installation using eight AlphaCore 200 systems.
CEO Matthew Viergutz noted that the release addresses direct requests from developers seeking to streamline plant configurations as projects grow toward 100,000 tonnes per year. The technology maintains the core chemical processes of the existing AlphaCore family, allowing operators to leverage established performance standards while reducing total equipment requirements and overall capital costs. This addition rounds out a portfolio that now spans from 50 to 800 barrels per day, providing a scalable pathway for syngas-to-liquid fuel production.
