Global PFAS Testing Market Projected to Reach $950 Million by 2031

Driven by tightening environmental regulations and the need for ultra-trace detection, the global market for PFAS testing is set to nearly double over the next five years. Industry analysts expect the sector to grow from $500 million in 2026 to $950 million by 2031, reflecting a compound annual growth rate of 13.7%.

The surge in demand is largely fueled by the implementation of rigorous compliance standards for drinking water and wastewater, such as the EPA’s Method 1633A. Laboratories are moving away from conventional testing toward high-sensitivity analytical platforms. Liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) currently leads the technical landscape, with instrument segments expected to see a 14.5% annual growth rate as facilities invest in automated sample-preparation systems and high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) to identify emerging chemical compounds.

North America remains the dominant region, commanding 47.4% of the market share as of 2025. This geographical lead is supported by a wave of consolidation, as major testing firms like SGS and Pace Analytical Services aggressively acquire specialized environmental laboratories to bolster their capacity. While the market remains fragmented, the focus has shifted toward integrated, high-throughput workflows capable of monitoring complex matrices, including soil, food, and industrial leachate. Major players, including Thermo Fisher Scientific, Agilent Technologies, and Waters Corporation, are positioning their hardware to meet these evolving regulatory demands for broader analyte coverage and improved data reliability.
