The proposal reflects Turlov’s broader argument that global chess bodies cannot remain detached from current geopolitical realities.

Since 2023, Turlov has led the Kazakhstan Chess Federation, overseeing an expansion of the 'Chess in Education' program that now serves 60,000 students across 1,500 schools. His campaign platform centers on digital transformation, financial sustainability, and the institutional strengthening of FIDE. The election, scheduled for September 26 at the FIDE General Assembly in Uzbekistan, features three competing tickets: Turlov–Anand, Wadim Rosenstein–Gordon Tang, and Jan Henric Buettner–Malcolm Pein.
