The project, led by the University of Colorado Anschutz, focuses on the logistical challenges of emergency care. Unlike standard blood products that require refrigeration, freeze-dried plasma remains stable at room temperature and can be prepared rapidly. This allows medical teams to stabilize patients at the point of injury, effectively buying time until surgical intervention becomes available.

Preliminary data from 26 Ukrainian military personnel—all suffering from significant blast-related hemorrhages—showed that every patient survived for at least 24 hours following the administration of the drone-delivered plasma. While the team cautions that these observational findings are influenced by various clinical factors, the improvement in patient shock indices suggests a clear benefit. Researchers now aim to expand the study to over 100 individuals to refine the protocols for both military and civilian use. If successful, the strategy could revolutionize care in remote regions, disaster zones, or any scenario where infrastructure damage isolates victims from trauma centers.
