Cooper Companies Faces Investor Scrutiny After Inventory Disclosure

The Cooper Companies saw its market capitalization plummet by $1.7 billion as shares slid 14.6% to a 52-week low of $54.17. The sharp decline followed a Q3 earnings report that revealed unexpected U.S. channel inventory destocking, prompting a formal investigation by shareholder rights firm Hagens Berman into the company’s transparency.

The investigation centers on whether Cooper Companies provided accurate information regarding the sustainability of its CooperVision segment, which accounts for roughly 67% of total consolidated sales. During the Q2 earnings call on June 4, 2026, management projected solid organic revenue growth and stable demand for premium lens products. However, the narrative shifted abruptly on September 9, 2026, when management disclosed that legacy hydrogel sales had suffered double-digit declines and that the company had initiated significant inventory reductions in the U.S. market.

CEO Albert White III confirmed that the entire downward adjustment to revenue guidance was linked to these channel inventory issues. This admission sparked intense skepticism from analysts, with some questioning whether past sales strategies had been used to artificially inflate performance metrics. Hagens Berman partner Reed Kathrein stated the firm is now scrutinizing the adequacy of disclosures surrounding these sales practices. As the investigation proceeds, the legal firm is calling on investors who incurred substantial losses and potential whistleblowers with non-public information to come forward.
