The energy sector faces a dual challenge: transitioning to renewables while bridging the gap for the 700 million people still lacking reliable electricity access. Huawei argues that the key to this evolution lies in the low-voltage grid, which has historically been a management bottleneck. By applying AI to achieve systematic transparency, the company aims to improve grid observability, measurability, and controllability.
David Sun, CEO of Huawei’s Electric Power Digitalization Business Unit, emphasized that success depends on prioritizing digital talent, infrastructure, and regulated asset bases. The six showcased projects, ranging from Brazil’s CEMIG digital grid to China Southern Power Grid’s microgrid demonstration in Guangzhou and UHV converter stations in Zhejiang, illustrate how these technologies function in diverse real-world environments. These deployments confirm that computing-power synergy is no longer a theoretical goal but an active component of modern grid operations.
