Scholastic Reports Fiscal 2027 First Quarter Results

CEO Peter Warwick maintained an optimistic outlook, affirming the company's fiscal 2027 guidance and citing strong early indicators heading into the critical fall season. While overall revenue fell 4% to $216.8 million, the company saw a notable bright spot in its Entertainment division, where production activity and revenue grew significantly. Conversely, the Education segment faced headwinds from tightened school and district budgets, forcing a strategic alignment of the business's cost structure to support long-term performance.

Despite the quarterly loss, Scholastic remains committed to its growth targets, projecting full-year revenue growth of 2% to 4% and Adjusted EBITDA between $135 million and $145 million. The company continued to return value to shareholders during the quarter, repurchasing 630,850 shares for $25.8 million and distributing $3.8 million in dividends. Management expects these investments in IP expansion and operational efficiency to yield results as the fiscal year progresses.
