Brightline Secures $490 Million to Delever Balance Sheet

Brightline has entered into a restructuring support agreement to secure $490 million in new capital, aiming to significantly reduce its debt load. While certain parent entities will initiate prearranged Chapter 11 proceedings in New Jersey, the company confirmed that daily high-speed rail operations between Miami and Orlando will remain unaffected.

The capital injection consists of $140 million in new senior debt and $350 million in junior debt provided by existing stakeholders, including Assured Guaranty, Inc. and a group of mutual fund bondholders. Management emphasized that the restructuring is designed to bolster liquidity and align the company’s balance sheet with its recent growth. Through August 2026, Brightline reported a 14% increase in ridership and a 17% rise in revenue compared to the previous year.

Key debt instruments, including the $2.2 billion Series 2024 tax-exempt bonds, will remain outstanding without changes to their aggregate principal amounts. Operational entities, including Brightline Trains Florida LLC, are not part of the Chapter 11 filing and will continue to function under existing management. The company maintains its focus on expansion initiatives, such as developing additional stations in Cocoa and advancing commuter access projects across Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties, alongside plans to extend rail service from Orlando to Tampa.
