The findings, derived from an initial subgroup of 20 patients, suggest that earlier intervention may fundamentally shift outcomes for those fighting this complex blood cancer. At a median follow-up of 60.7 months, the overall survival rate reached 69.2%, with a median progression-free survival of 60.5 months. Notably, these results were achieved without the need for ongoing maintenance therapy, even among patients exhibiting high-risk cytogenetic abnormalities.

"Five years ago, treatment-free remissions of this duration were difficult to imagine," said Niels van de Donk, Professor of Hematology at the University Medical Center in Amsterdam. The study reinforces the potential for CARVYKTI to provide curative-level control when administered sooner in the treatment journey. While the clinical profile remained consistent with previously established safety data—with no new reports of CAR T-cell-related neurotoxicity—the trial did record the development of a secondary hematologic malignancy in one patient and two deaths attributed to disease progression.
