Thanksgiving 2026: Tradition Holds Despite Rising Costs

Eighty-five percent of Americans intend to celebrate Thanksgiving this year, with an average of ten guests per gathering. Despite inflationary pressures, consumers remain committed to traditional holiday plans, positioning turkey as the primary centerpiece for 84% of households as they prepare for the upcoming season.

The 2026 Butterball Togetherness Report highlights a persistent desire for family connection, with 64% of respondents citing time with relatives as their top priority. While the menu remains anchored by turkey—favored by 45% of diners—the logistical burden of hosting continues to weigh on organizers. Although 85% of hosts express a desire for assistance, only 38% actively solicit help from guests. Data suggests that the most critical window for support is the post-meal cleanup, identified by 49% of hosts as their biggest pain point.

To bridge the gap between preparation stress and holiday execution, the Butterball Turkey Talk-Line is marking its 45th anniversary. Beginning November 2, over 50 experts will provide guidance across phone, text, and digital channels. According to Rebecca Welch, director of retail and international brand management, the goal is to alleviate the "balancing act" of hosting by offering professional support to home cooks through December 24.
