Chirantan "CJ" Desai has stepped down as president and CEO of MongoDB, effective immediately, to pursue a senior role at Meta Platforms. Ittycheria is a familiar face for the database software provider, having led the company from 2014 until 2025. During his previous eleven-year tenure, he oversaw a dramatic expansion that saw the firm grow from an early-stage disruptor into a global entity, with annual revenues climbing from $35 million to over $2.3 billion.

Tom Killalea, Chairman of the Board, cited Ittycheria's intimate knowledge of the company and his continued involvement as an executive board member over the past year as key reasons for his appointment. The transition comes at a busy time for the New York-based company, which is scheduled to host an Investor Day at Nasdaq MarketSite on September 29. Despite the leadership shakeup, MongoDB confirmed it is maintaining its previously issued financial guidance for Q3 and the full 2027 fiscal year.
