Biesterfeld, a member of the Vegan Strong PlantBuilt team, lifted 100 kilograms in the snatch and 123 kilograms in the clean and jerk, achieving a combined total of 223 kilograms. Beyond the podium, the victory highlights her ongoing management of type 1 diabetes, a condition she has navigated since age 10. Balancing insulin levels and blood glucose alongside the physical demands of elite weightlifting, she views the dual challenge as an essential part of her preparation.
As the founder of FuelWorks Nutrition, Biesterfeld integrates her professional knowledge with a plant-based athletic approach. Vegan Strong executive director Susan Peters noted that the win challenges persistent assumptions regarding both diabetic limitations and the necessity of animal products for peak strength. Following the event in Fort Worth, Biesterfeld now pivots her focus toward the upcoming Olympic qualification cycle.
