The partnership, formalized in New York on September 25, 2026, marks an initial step toward establishing a research center dedicated to mapping systems biology at a population scale. Viome will contribute its proprietary metatranscriptomic datasets and biomedical AI expertise, while DHI provides the compute infrastructure powered by the nation’s renewable energy resources. Gelephu Mindfulness City is slated to serve as the regulatory and clinical environment for the initiative.

Naveen Jain, CEO of Viome Life Sciences, noted that the collaboration offers a unique opportunity to build healthcare infrastructure outside the constraints of existing, traditional health systems. The project supports DHI’s “DH1 10X” strategy, which seeks to diversify Bhutan’s economy beyond hydropower and into high-value technology sectors. The parties plan to finalize a pre-feasibility study and a phased technical roadmap within the next six to ten weeks, including the establishment of a local Center of Excellence to train Bhutanese scientists in data science and precision medicine.
