ID.me Recruits Credit Karma and Mastercard Veterans to Executive Ranks

As artificial intelligence reshapes the landscape of digital verification, ID.me is restructuring its leadership to bridge the gap between compliance and product development. The McLean-based identity platform has appointed Susannah Stroud Wright as Chief Legal Officer and Darragh Whelan as Executive Vice President of Engineering to steer its next growth phase.

Wright arrives with a track record of scaling legal and government affairs operations, having spent eight years at Credit Karma. During her tenure there, she oversaw the company’s expansion from $500 million to nearly $2 billion in revenue. Her background includes a stint managing compliance at Tesla and SolarCity, as well as early experience as a prosecutor in Atlanta. At ID.me, she will be tasked with building frameworks for the responsible use of AI, a subject she has frequently addressed at industry forums like TEDAI.

Whelan joins the company from Mastercard, where he managed a team of over 350 product and data engineers focused on real-time decisioning systems. Before his time at Mastercard, he served as Vice President of Engineering at Chime, leading large-scale organizations through identity management and risk-focused challenges. CEO Blake Hall emphasized that for a platform serving 22 federal agencies and 170 million users, the integration of legal oversight and engineering is no longer optional. By uniting these functions, the company aims to treat compliance as a core product feature rather than a regulatory hurdle.
