PwC’s 2026 Global Workforce Hopes and Fears Survey reveals a stark dichotomy: access to learning resources has dropped to 51%, down eight points from last year, even as AI integration climbs. The report highlights that daily AI users are significantly more likely to trust management and feel optimistic about their careers. In contrast, those without these tools or skills face mounting pressure from rising workloads and declining financial security, with only one-third of workers reporting disposable income at the end of the month.

This divergence is most dangerous for employers regarding retention. While the "front-runner" cohort—workers with scarce skills and high AI proficiency—feels empowered to pursue promotions, 29% of this group are actively considering a move to a new employer within the next year. Pete Brown, PwC’s Global Workforce Leader, warns that leaders must pivot their investment strategies. By focusing solely on top-tier talent while neglecting the "engine room" that handles the bulk of day-to-day operations, companies risk creating a two-speed workforce that could destabilize long-term productivity and organizational stability.
