The new design targets the primary cost drivers of industrial hydrogen production: site area and infrastructure. By vertically integrating components, the module cuts steel structure requirements by 30% and reduces piping systems by 50%. Infrastructure costs linked to the installation footprint can drop by as much as 70% compared to conventional building-based layouts. These savings are particularly critical for projects where land availability is limited or carries a high premium.
Christer Wikner, President and CEO of Metacon, stated that the company is moving beyond simple stack innovation to optimize the entire plant architecture. The module relies on a repeatable, standardized framework that facilitates easier transport and parallel installation, allowing operators to scale capacity incrementally. This approach simplifies on-site assembly and is intended to bolster the business case for large-scale green hydrogen projects by lowering the total investment required for site integration and utility interconnections.
