Consumers willing to trade brand loyalty for AI-driven savings

A majority of American shoppers are ready to abandon brand allegiances if an AI assistant can reliably trim 20% off their total bill. A new survey of 2,000 U.S. adults suggests that while consumers are eager to automate product discovery, they remain deeply protective of their wallets and payment security.

The shift away from traditional brand loyalty is most pronounced among younger demographics. Roughly a third of Gen Z and Millennial respondents indicated they would prioritize AI-driven price optimization over established brand names. This trend is further underscored by changing research habits; 31% of Gen Z consumers now trust ChatGPT more than Google Search or personal recommendations when vetting products.

Despite this enthusiasm for AI-led curation, a clear friction point remains regarding financial autonomy. While shoppers may outsource the choice of goods, 64% refuse to let an AI assistant complete transactions without explicit approval. Concerns regarding fraud and data security act as significant buffers, with 52% of all respondents citing security risks as their primary reason for keeping human oversight in the checkout process. Justin Benson, CEO of the payment platform Spreedly, notes that while the transaction environment is evolving, the expectation of control over actual money movement remains a firm barrier to fully autonomous commerce.
