Veteran Loan Fund Graduates First Business Accelerator Cohort

Thirty-seven military entrepreneurs from five states have completed the inaugural Veteran and MilSpouse Business Accelerator, a program designed to bridge the gap between service-driven leadership and commercial success. Backed by the Truist Foundation, the initiative provided participants with over $3.2 million in capital to catalyze business growth and job creation.

The eight-week program blends rigorous business education with direct access to loan capital and technical mentorship. Delivered through a network of partners including the University of Texas at Arlington Veterans Business Outreach Center and the Veteran Women's Enterprise Center, the curriculum prioritizes long-term sustainability for veteran-owned enterprises. Graduates like Army Reserve veteran Chandra Lamonica Winford credited the program with shifting their focus toward strategic growth and technological integration. For others, such as Robert Dobynes Jr., who is managing his family's four-decade-old optical practice in Missouri, the value lay in finding partners who understood both the historical legacy and the modern economic stakes of their operations.

This graduation follows a period of significant growth for the Veteran Loan Fund. By the end of June 2026, the organization had deployed more than $118 million to over 1,500 veteran and military spouse entrepreneurs nationwide, supporting the retention or creation of 8,350 jobs. As the fund prepares to open applications for its second cohort on October 7, it continues to refine a model that marries national-scale resources with the individualized support of local Community Development Financial Institutions.
