Arcadis is partnering with a design-build team led by Flatiron-Dragados to deliver this infrastructure. The project integrates physical barriers with advanced monitoring technology, including water level sensors and rain gauges that feed into a unified stormwater control center. By linking these assets, the city aims to synchronize its hydraulic models with real-time weather forecasts to manage tidal and rainfall flooding more effectively.

LJ Hansen, the city’s Director of Public Works, noted that the collaborative design process serves as a potential blueprint for other climate-vulnerable communities. Travis Davis, Arcadis’ Mid-Atlantic Resilience Water Market Leader, emphasized that the station is designed to function as part of a larger, connected system, complementing existing tide gates to protect homes and essential community access routes.
