The HAPS and LENDR programs serve as the engine for this expansion, allowing investors to purchase loan pools with built-in financing. HAPS, a two-tranche private securitization, enables investors to capture levered returns while the bank retains senior notes and manages credit risk. Building on that infrastructure, the bank introduced LENDR to provide credit-rated note tranches, specifically targeting investors who require investment-grade assets.
Clarke Roberts, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Marketplace at Happen Bank, attributed the success to the bank's unique status, which allows for the creation of streamlined financing vehicles that remain effective across varying economic cycles. According to the bank, the ability to offer both high-quality personal loans and efficient, scalable financing has established a consistent demand from both long-term partners and new market entrants. This funding model grants the company significant flexibility, allowing it to navigate fluctuating market conditions while maintaining its focus on high-FICO, high-income consumers.
