CollPlant Diversifies into Photonic Computing via LightSolver Buyout

CollPlant Biotechnologies has expanded its technological footprint beyond regenerative medicine by acquiring LightSolver, a pioneer in laser-based photonic computing. The Rehovot-based firm, which reported a second-quarter net loss of $2.7 million, aims to integrate LightSolver’s high-performance processing technology into its existing portfolio of bioprinting and collagen-based products.

The acquisition, finalized in September 2026, introduces LightSolver’s Laser Processing Unit (LPU) to the company's offerings. Research conducted alongside the High-Performance Computing Center Stuttgart suggests this architecture can accelerate specific computational workloads by up to 80,000 times compared to traditional GPU-based systems. To oversee this strategic shift, CollPlant has appointed LightSolver co-founder Dr. Ruti Ben Shlomi to its Board of Directors.

Financial results for the period ending June 30, 2026, underscore the company’s transition phase. GAAP revenues for the second quarter reached $108,000, down from $179,000 in the same period last year, primarily due to lower sales of rhCollagen products. Operating expenses fell to $2.2 million from $3.2 million, following a deliberate cost-reduction plan that included lower personnel and manufacturing outlays. As of June 30, the company held $2.6 million in cash, supplemented by subsequent capital raises and warrant exercises totaling approximately $5.2 million in the third quarter.
