NNB Nutrition Shifts Strategy to Custom Molecular Engineering

Moving beyond the role of a standard raw material supplier, Boise-based NNB Nutrition is rebranding as an innovation partner for the global supplement and beverage industry. The company now focuses on modifying ingredients at the molecular level to solve specific formulation hurdles for major consumer brands.

While competitors typically sell products straight from a static specification sheet, NNB leverages in-house R&D and biosynthesis to adjust purity, solubility, and particle size. This technical flexibility has positioned the firm as an unbranded engine behind product launches for industry giants including Pepsi, Unilever, Amway, and Nestlé. According to Chief Branding Officer Dustin Elliott, the company frequently develops solutions for direct competitors, prioritizing collaborative problem-solving over simple commodity transactions.

This service-first approach addresses common manufacturing issues like ingredient instability, poor flavor profiles, or inconsistent dosing. By treating ingredient creation as a starting point rather than a final product, the firm has secured over 90 patents and built a portfolio of proprietary compounds like Pürest Creatine and HydroPrime. Their work spans high-stakes projects, such as developing clear, water-soluble proteins for beverage lines and engineering non-hygroscopic compounds to improve shelf stability for supplement brands. Operating from a massive manufacturing footprint known as Ingredient City, the company now supports more than 600 partners worldwide, moving away from off-the-shelf sales toward bespoke molecular design.
