SEMIFIVE and Mobilint Partner on Robotics AI Chip for Korean Market

Seoul-based SEMIFIVE has secured a turnkey contract to develop a specialized robotics AI chip for Mobilint, marking a tactical expansion into physical AI. Backed by the South Korean Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources, the project aims to equip autonomous machines with high-performance processing for challenging, disconnected outdoor environments.

The collaboration operates under SEMIFIVE’s "Spec Hand-off" model, which allows Mobilint to define performance targets while delegating the complexities of design, packaging, and mass production to the ASIC provider. By shifting the entire development burden to SEMIFIVE, the companies aim to accelerate the transition from concept to commercial-grade hardware for use in sectors like agricultural robotics.

Technically, the chip is designed to handle vision and sensor data in real time without relying on external server connectivity. To achieve this, the architecture integrates high-bandwidth standards, including LPDDR6 memory, PCIe Gen6 interfaces, and UCIe-S chiplet connectivity. These components allow the device to function as a monolithic die, ensuring the power efficiency and stability required for robots operating in remote locations.

Brandon Cho, CEO of SEMIFIVE, noted that the deal signals the firm’s intent to move its proven ASIC capabilities beyond traditional data centers and into industrial robotics. The initiative is a key component of the "K-On-Device AI Semiconductor Technology Development" program, a government-led effort to cultivate a domestic ecosystem capable of competing in the global high-tech hardware market.
