Wellcare Unveils 2027 Medicare Portfolio With Focus on Dual-Eligible Care

Ahead of the Medicare Annual Enrollment Period starting October 15, Wellcare has unveiled its 2027 portfolio of Medicare Advantage and prescription drug plans. The strategy prioritizes integrated care for dual-eligible beneficiaries, who now represent roughly 40% of the company's Medicare Advantage membership, while maintaining its national standalone Part D platform.

Centene Corporation’s Medicare brand is shifting its 2027 offerings toward deeper alignment between Medicare and Medicaid services. Michael Carson, Group President of Medicare and Specialty at Centene, stated that the company aims to simplify the healthcare experience for members with complex needs by coordinating support services and benefit designs. Half of the company's upcoming Medicare Advantage plans are specifically designated as Dual Eligible Special Needs Plans (D-SNP).

The provider is also expanding its use of the Wellcare Spendables card, which allows eligible members to access funds for healthy food and other wellness expenses. This initiative follows company research suggesting that addressing social determinants of health leads to improved patient outcomes and lower systemic costs. Beyond integrated plans, Wellcare continues to anchor its market presence with two primary prescription drug plans, covering nearly 10 million members across the country through a network exceeding 60,000 pharmacies.
