The new vehicle, trading under the ticker XX, seeks to offer investors a multi-year upside play on the index while capping potential losses at the initial investment amount. Unlike traditional leveraged products that reset daily—often leading to performance erosion in volatile markets—XX is structured for long-term holding. The fund’s outcome depends strictly on the S&P 500’s performance at the end of the target period, rather than its day-to-day fluctuations.
Dave Mazza, CEO of Roundhill Investments, stated that the product aims to fill a gap for investors who have previously been forced to choose between decay-prone daily leveraged products or managing complex, individual long-term equity anticipation securities (LEAPs). By packaging this strategy into an ETF, the firm intends to simplify long-term leverage for retail portfolios. Once the current cycle concludes in early 2030, the fund is expected to roll its holdings into a new target and date. However, the firm emphasizes that the strategy is highly speculative and unsuitable for investors unable to withstand the potential loss of their entire principal if the index fails to meet the target.
