Scott & Jon's Enters Tuna Market With Homestyle Casserole

Comfort food is staging a comeback in the freezer aisle, as Auburn-based Scott & Jon's shifts its focus from shrimp and salmon to its first-ever tuna offering. The brand is betting that a modern, protein-rich take on a nostalgic staple can outperform established market leaders in consumer blind tests.

The new Homestyle Tuna Noodle Casserole features a blend of al dente egg noodles, chunk light tuna, and peas, bound by a sauce crafted from real milk, cream, and cheddar cheese. Topped with seasoned breadcrumbs, the meal is designed to replicate home-cooked textures while clocking in at under 500 calories. Beyond the nutritional profile, which boasts 21g of protein and 3g of fiber per serving, the company prioritized flavor performance to distinguish itself from existing frozen options.

In a blind central location test involving 103 participants, the new product was preferred 2-to-1 over a leading national brand. The company reported statistically significant higher scores across all measured categories, including sauce richness and pasta texture. According to co-CEO Jon Demers, the goal was to modernize a familiar childhood favorite to align with contemporary convenience demands without sacrificing the quality associated with their existing seafood lineup. The dish is currently rolling out to select regional retailers, including Giant Eagle, Weis, and Schnucks, with further distribution planned throughout the fall.
