Restoring Volume After Weight Loss Without Liposuction

Patients who achieve significant weight loss via GLP-1 medications often face a common aesthetic dilemma: depleted fat stores in the buttocks and hands that leave no viable tissue for traditional grafting. Dr. Amir Mahan Ghaznavi of AMG Plastic Surgery is now addressing this using alloClae, a donor-derived structural adipose tissue product.

Traditional fat grafting relies on liposuction to harvest a patient's own tissue, a process that becomes impossible when a patient lacks sufficient donor sites. alloClae offers an alternative by providing sterile, pre-processed adipose tissue that can be placed in an office setting under local anesthesia. Because the procedure requires no harvesting, most patients return to their daily routines within 48 hours.

Dr. Ghaznavi utilizes the product for targeted contouring, including softening hip dips, refining buttock shapes, and restoring volume to aging hands. While he cautions that alloClae is not a replacement for comprehensive surgical body contouring, it serves as a precise tool for patients who require modest volume restoration. The procedure requires specialized technique, as the longevity and aesthetic success depend entirely on the surgeon’s ability to place the material at the correct anatomical depth.

Processed from screened donor tissue, alloClae is regulated as a human tissue product rather than a drug or device. While Dr. Ghaznavi reports that results typically persist for 12 to 18 months, he emphasizes that long-term data remain under collection. As with any medical intervention, the treatment carries risks, including potential nodule formation or immune response, necessitating a thorough consultation to determine candidacy.
