Bristol Inventor Proposes Vapor-Neutralizing System for Fuel Tankers

A Bristol, Connecticut-based inventor has developed a safety system designed to neutralize flammable vapors in gasoline tankers during emergencies. The concept, dubbed the LOCKWOOD INVENTION, aims to prevent catastrophic explosions by automatically purging tanks and rendering contents inert if a vehicle flips or encounters nearby fire.

The system integrates a specialized tank configuration with advanced piping and sensor arrays. When the equipment detects a rollover or proximity to flames, it triggers a mechanism to vent excess pressure and stabilize the volatile cargo. This design prioritizes the protection of surrounding infrastructure and public safety by mitigating the risk of secondary fires following a collision.

Designed for ease of operation, the system is intended for fleet integration within the fuel transportation industry. The project, officially designated as BKC-977, is currently being managed by the Pittsburgh-based firm InventHelp. Technical drawings and a prototype model are available for manufacturers and industry marketers interested in licensing the technology.
