His career includes founding the Friuli-focused Scarpetta Wine and the boutique import company Benvenusa. Since earning his Master Sommelier diploma in 2004, he has secured multiple James Beard Foundation accolades, cementing his influence in the industry.
Veronafiere president Federico Bricolo noted that the award serves to recognize individuals who mirror the late Gianfranco Sorrentino’s dedication to service and quality. Sorrentino, a Naples native who opened the iconic Il Gattopardo in New York in 2001, was a prominent advocate for the 'Made in Italy' label. His widow, Paula Bolla-Sorrentino, described the award as a fitting tribute to a man who championed uncompromising culinary standards and the refined art of the Italian table.
