OneStopSwap Gains Traction as Gen Z Shifts Toward Circular Commerce

With 41% of secondhand sellers now coming from Gen Z, the rise of the side hustle is turning closets into capital. Los Angeles-based startup OneStopSwap is tapping into this financial shift, nearing 3,000 preregistrations for a platform designed to let users trade items directly rather than relying solely on cash sales.

Financial pressure is reshaping how younger generations view their belongings. Recent data from the Bank of America Institute shows that Gen Z participation in secondhand fashion has climbed to 41% in 2026, up from 37% two years prior. As 42% of young adults report living paycheck to paycheck, these consumers are increasingly looking to maximize the latent value of their possessions. Items once considered disposable, such as vintage mall-brand clothing, now command significant premiums on the secondary market.

OneStopSwap aims to formalize this behavior by integrating buying, selling, and direct item-swapping into one ecosystem. According to co-founder Dean Klein, the platform seeks to provide choice beyond the standard cash transaction. Users can list items for sale or pursue direct trades, a model intended to keep capital within the user base. The platform plans to charge a 3% fee for cash transactions, while direct swaps will incur a flat fee starting at $1.99. The company is offering zero-fee incentives for the first 5,000 Founding Members as it prepares for a wider commercial rollout in mid-2027.
