Winter rainfall totaling 10 inches proved to be the decisive factor, replenishing deep soil reserves that sustained the vines through a dry spring and intense June heat. Technical Director Marco Balsimelli noted that the estate’s older vines displayed a remarkable tenacity, avoiding stress and reaching August in peak condition. Two timely rain events mid-summer provided the necessary hydration to push the grapes into a successful ripening phase.
Harvesting began with white varieties, which defied the early timeline to deliver notable aromatic intensity and brightness. By August 24, the team shifted focus to Merlots, proceeding parcel by parcel to honor individual ripening cycles. A weather shift in mid-September brought cooler nights and clear days, with temperatures remaining below 82°F. This transition proved ideal for Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, allowing them to develop complex phenolic structures. By the time the final grapes were brought in on September 23, the cellar held wines showing surprising vibrancy, creaminess, and depth, validating the team's decision to prioritize observation over rigid, predetermined schedules.
