Veolia Unveils $58 Million Climate-Resilient Plant in New Jersey

Rising above the floodplain, a new $58 million wastewater facility in Plainsboro Township replaces 55-year-old infrastructure with advanced ultraviolet disinfection technology. The project, led by Veolia, aims to secure long-term water sustainability for 11,000 residents while reinforcing a legacy of reclaiming billions of gallons of water for local irrigation.

The facility marks a strategic shift from aging, vulnerable infrastructure to a modern site engineered for climate resilience. By relocating the plant to higher ground, Veolia has mitigated risks associated with the original 100-year floodplain, ensuring the site remains operational during extreme weather events. The plant processes 475 million gallons of wastewater annually and continues a long-standing practice of water reuse, reclaiming 32 million gallons each year for local golf course irrigation.

Nadege Petit, CEO of Veolia in North America, noted that the investment underscores a commitment to public health and environmental security. Kendra Morris, CEO of Veolia Regulated Water, added that the project was a total reimagining of local utility needs rather than a simple repair. The site’s completion was marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by state officials and project partners, including HDR and J. Fletcher Creamer & Son. Beyond the physical upgrades, Veolia announced a $10,000 donation to the Plainsboro Recreation Department to foster local student interest in water science and conservation.
