Gas Liquids Engineering Finalizes Design for Alberta Origins CCS Hub

Construction crews have broken ground on the Origins Carbon Capture and Storage hub near Clive, Alberta, following the completion of detailed engineering work by Calgary-based Gas Liquids Engineering. The infrastructure project, designed to transport and sequester CO₂ emissions, is scheduled to reach full operational capacity by early 2027.

The engineering scope encompassed a comprehensive suite of technical requirements, including pipeline hydraulics, mechanical systems, and structural design. Beyond core infrastructure, the project integrates complex electrical and instrumentation controls, telecommunications, and safety protocols necessary for long-term pipeline integrity.

Stuart MacKenzie, President and CEO of Gas Liquids Engineering, noted that the project marks a significant progression for the province's carbon management sector. Having provided design services for carbon capture and sequestration initiatives in Alberta for years, the firm utilized this project to expand upon existing regional networks. With the blueprint phase finished, the focus now shifts entirely to the construction of the pipeline and associated facilities that connect to the sequestration site.
