The consultancy sector currently ranks second in the United States for AI adoption, boasting an overall score of 91/100. As firms integrate generative tools to manage research, development, and document drafting, the definition of an entry-level position is being rewritten. Data shows that junior job listings now frequently require senior-level capabilities, with candidates expected to demonstrate proficiency in complex strategy planning and data narration before even securing an interview.
While 61% of firms utilize AI to augment human labor, the competitive pressure has created a bottleneck. Jon Stead, CEO of CMap, argues that companies are missing a critical opportunity to use these technologies to upskill junior staff rather than simply raising requirements. Instead, firms are opting for efficiency, with 15% of organizations having already replaced specific human tasks entirely with automated systems. As boutique consultancies continue to expand at a rate of 4.61% annually, the gap between traditional entry-level requirements and the reality of an AI-augmented workplace continues to widen, leaving graduates struggling to find a foothold.
