Global Executives Convene in Shanghai to Forge New Economic Frontiers

More than 20 multinational corporations have launched fresh investment projects in China since the last International Business Leaders' Advisory Council (IBLAC) gathering, signaling a deepening commitment to the local market ahead of this year’s 38th session, which kicks off in Shanghai on October 10.

The two-day forum will center on service sector innovation and the mechanics of global expansion. While the council traditionally serves as a platform for Shanghai to gain international expertise, the focus has shifted toward mutual exchange. Multinational giants are now collaborating with local firms to facilitate Chinese companies' entry into foreign markets, leveraging established global service networks and financial technology solutions, such as cross-border renminbi services offered by DBS Group.

Artificial intelligence remains a critical pillar of the discussions. Participants are scheduled to visit Fuxing Island to observe real-world AI implementations, following recommendations from firms like ABB and Novartis regarding energy systems and community healthcare. Local innovators, including AgiBot, are actively aligning with these international partners to integrate embodied AI into industrial handling and retail logistics. Meanwhile, companies like Boehringer Ingelheim and Vale China are expanding their footprint, targeting new R&D centers in Zhangjiang and strengthening digital infrastructure to bridge trade between China, Brazil, and Latin American markets.
