Teva Shares Rally on FDA Approval of Schizophrenia Treatment Weltruza

Shares of Teva Pharmaceuticals climbed 6% to $41.56 in morning trading after the FDA cleared Weltruza, an extended-release injectable suspension designed to treat schizophrenia in adults. The stock price briefly touched a 52-week high of $41.69 shortly after the opening bell, signaling strong investor confidence in the new therapeutic option.

Clinical data provided by the company indicate that Weltruza usage leads to symptom relief, reduced illness severity, and enhanced personal and social functioning. The medication is scheduled to reach the U.S. market in the coming weeks, offered in three specific strengths: 318 mg, 425 mg, and 531 mg. Teva emphasized that the administration process requires no loading doses, oral supplementation, or post-injection monitoring.

During phase 3 clinical trials, patients tolerated all three dosage levels similarly. Reported adverse events were consistent with typical treatment profiles, including instances of weight gain, somnolence, headaches, constipation, and localized reactions at the injection site.
