Duke Energy Foundation Pours $190,000 into South Carolina Main Streets

Twenty-two South Carolina municipalities are receiving grants of up to $10,000 each to revitalize local business districts. The $190,000 investment from the Duke Energy Foundation targets aesthetic and functional improvements, ranging from facade renovations and wayfinding signage to the creation of new public gathering spaces in struggling commercial corridors.

The program prioritizes community-led initiatives designed to drive foot traffic and foster economic stability. In Anderson, funds will support new signage for the Whitner Creek Greenway, while Darlington officials plan to direct the capital toward storefront improvements. Other recipients, including the Laurens County Chamber Foundation, intend to distribute the money as microgrants to help small businesses modernize their operations.

Tim Pearson, president of Duke Energy South Carolina, noted that the grants aim to cultivate spaces where residents can connect. For many of the twenty-two organizations selected, the funding serves as a catalyst for projects that might otherwise remain stalled. By focusing on tangible upgrades like the historic tour banners in Dillon or park infrastructure in Anderson, the foundation seeks to provide a visible boost to the identity and accessibility of these regional hubs.
