Dangote Refinery Posts $4.7 Billion Profit Ahead of Record IPO

A dramatic reversal has turned Nigeria’s Dangote refinery from a loss-making commissioning project into a $4.73 billion profit engine. With cash reserves swelling to $6.69 billion, the Lagos-based facility is now pushing for a $1.6 billion initial public offering that values the complex at approximately $47 billion.

Dangote Refinery Posts $4.7 Billion Profit Ahead of Record IPO

The refinery's financial transformation over the first nine months of 2026 marks a sharp pivot from the $117.2 million loss reported during the same period last year. Revenue surged to $22.48 billion, fueled by a global supply crunch that saw Middle Eastern refining disruptions drive up margins for diesel and jet fuel. By pivoting toward exports—including jet fuel shipments to Western Europe—the 700,000-barrel-per-day facility captured windfall profits that sent EBITDA soaring to $5.52 billion.

This liquidity boost has fundamentally reshaped the company’s balance sheet, moving it from a $1.73 billion net debt position to $650.8 million in net cash. The scale of this turnaround has triggered massive investor interest in the ongoing IPO. The subscription period, initially slated to close October 13, was extended through October 27 after demand overwhelmed local Nigerian investment platforms.

Capital raised from this offering is designated for an aggressive expansion strategy. Management aims to double refining capacity to 1.4 million barrels per day by 2029, potentially cementing the Lagos site as one of the largest refineries globally. By displacing imports from Europe and the Middle East, the complex has already begun to fundamentally alter the fuel supply landscape across West Africa.
