Huawei Scales NG WAN Commercialization to Secure AI-Driven Networks

At the Net5.5G Intelligent IP Network Summit in Vienna, Huawei announced the widespread commercial deployment of its Next-Generation Wide Area Network solution. Designed to address the demands of the AI era, the architecture focuses on multi-layered security, lossless computing efficiency, and autonomous network operations to drive carrier revenue.

The NG WAN solution integrates security directly into the hardware and service layers. By utilizing independent Threat Protection Units and multimodal algorithms, the system can isolate threats from the router operating system, reportedly detecting over 95% of attacks. Data plane performance is bolstered by intelligent flow identification, which has already proven effective in field tests, including a deployment with a Chinese carrier that successfully thwarted 324 attacks over a three-month period. Furthermore, the integration of Post-Quantum Cryptography and Quantum Key Distribution has enabled the world’s first quantum-secured target network in Macao, increasing private line revenue by 50%.

Beyond security, the solution targets the high sensitivity of AI computing to packet loss. By implementing AI Fabric and a simplified two-layer architecture, Huawei claims to reduce hardware requirements by 30% while maintaining near-zero packet loss over 1,000-kilometer transmissions. This efficiency gain has been applied to healthcare projects, significantly lowering hospital computing costs. The infrastructure is managed through an 'One Map, One Brain' autonomous framework, which has reached Level 4 autonomy across four key scenarios—fault handling, configuration changes, optimization, and security. Currently, over 60 carriers globally have adopted the solution, signaling a shift in telecommunications toward value-added, AI-ready network services.
