Midea Debuts Dishwasher Designed to Clean Reusable Straws

Persistent kitchen cleanup frustrations over hand-washing reusable straws and tumblers have prompted a design overhaul. Midea America is launching the STRAWash™ dishwasher, featuring a specialized jet system that targets the notoriously difficult-to-clean interiors of drinkware components that consumers previously felt forced to scrub by hand.

The development followed extensive in-home observations where Midea’s consumer insights team noted a recurring pattern: users would run a full dishwasher cycle but still manually soak or scrub straws and lids to ensure hygiene. This realization pushed the company to pivot away from traditional rack layouts toward a system that integrates specifically into the user's daily habits.

At the core of the new model is the STRAWash™ system, which utilizes five high-pressure precision jets to target both the interior and exterior surfaces of straws. Complementing this is the Total Tumbler Clean zone, which provides dedicated space for large insulated bottles and lids. Justin Reinke, President of Midea America, noted that the product was born from the rapid cultural shift toward oversized insulated drinkware, a trend the appliance industry had largely neglected. To address drying concerns common with deep tumblers, the unit also incorporates the SENSOR TruDry™ system, combining convection technology with an automatic door-opening feature. The appliances are currently available at major retailers including Lowe’s and Best Buy.
