Rocket Lab Pushes Neutron Debut to 2027

A manufacturing flaw in the Neutron rocket’s forward dome has forced Rocket Lab to abandon its 2026 launch target. CEO Peter Beck confirmed on Wednesday that the company is currently producing a replacement component, a move that effectively resets the timeline for the vehicle's maiden flight to next year.

The delay stems from a rigorous investigation into the structural integrity of the rocket's forward section. Rather than rushing the existing hardware, the company opted to refine its production techniques to ensure long-term reliability. Beck noted that the necessary milestones for the launch are now projected to conclude within the first quarter of 2027, at which point a revised flight schedule will be provided.

Investors reacted sharply to the news, as the company prioritizes high-cadence operational stability over an accelerated development pace. Shares of Rocket Lab slipped 7.2% to $54.91 in after-hours trading, adding to a broader 15% decline in the stock's value throughout the current year.
