Lockheed Martin to Build Missile Surveillance Systems for Canada and Japan

The U.S. Navy has awarded Lockheed Martin a $74.3 million contract to manufacture electronic surveillance systems designed to detect anti-ship missiles. This modification to an existing agreement primarily supports foreign military sales, with the vast majority of funding allocated to bolster the defensive capabilities of Canadian and Japanese naval forces.

Canada leads the funding contribution with $38.4 million, while Japan provides $35.4 million for the technology. The U.S. Coast Guard accounts for the remaining 1% of the contract value. These systems serve as a critical layer of defense, providing early warning capabilities against incoming maritime threats.

Production of the surveillance hardware is slated for facilities in Liverpool, New York, and Lansdale, Pennsylvania. The project schedule extends through September 2029, marking a multi-year effort to integrate these detection units into the fleets of the partner nations.
