Singapore Private Home Sales Rebound After Lunar Calendar Slump

Singaporean developers moved 296 private residential units in September, nearly doubling the previous month’s total of 153. This surge marks a recovery from the traditional mid-August lull associated with the seventh month of the lunar calendar, signaling renewed buyer activity that outpaced the 255 units sold during the same period last year.

The uptick stems from a combination of increased project launches and the conclusion of a period typically viewed as inauspicious for property investment. According to Huttons Asia Chief Executive Mark Yip, the sequential growth reflects the market shaking off seasonal hesitation as developers brought more inventory to the fore. Christine Sun of Realion Group anticipates this momentum will carry into the final quarter, with developers positioning new projects ahead of the year-end holiday season.

Despite recent fluctuations in interest rates, analysts remain optimistic regarding overall demand. Yip maintains that historical data suggests rate adjustments exert minimal pressure on the primary market, with current projections placing total transaction volume for the year at approximately 7,000 units.
