The Minneapolis-based financial institution saw its quarterly revenue rise 8.7% to $7.97 billion, narrowly missing the $8.00 billion forecast by analysts tracked by FactSet. Despite the slight revenue shortfall, the bank surpassed earnings-per-share estimates of $1.32, marking a clear improvement from the $1.22 per share reported in the same period last year.
Growth centered on the bank's lending portfolio, specifically across commercial and commercial real estate sectors. Credit-card lending also played a significant role in the expansion, alongside increased capital deployment to financial institutions and small-business credit card operators. While these gains drove the bottom line, the company faced pressure from higher noninterest expenses and a rise in provisions for credit losses, which acted as a partial drag on the quarter's overall financial performance.
